THE POSITION: Responsible for maintaining records of monetary transactions. Works under the immediate supervision of the department head. Calculates bills or payroll. Posts accounts. May collect money. Records payments or delinquent payments. May prepare trial balances or financial reports. May operate office appliances such as calculators, bookkeeping machines and check writers. May make deposits. May type. May answer questions from the public. Perform other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS: Considerable knowledge of standard bookkeeping practices. Good business math skills. Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, coworkers and the general public. Must be a graduate of a high school or technical secondary school business program with bookkeeping courses and three (3) years of experience in bookkeeping for a municipal department or state agency; OR any combination of training and experience which provides a demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position. Must be bondable in accordance with the General Statutes of the State of Connecticut.
EXAMINATION: Oral interview.
