Assistant Tax Collector

Job Description:

The Town of Weston is accepting applications for Assistant Tax Collector. This position is accountable for collecting and recording payments for property taxes as well as applying all corrections and adjustments for real and personal property. Maintains frequent contact with the public, generally requiring detailed explanations of taxes and other charges. Explains tax collection policy, procedures, and law. Summarizes monthly collections, adjustments, refunds, journal entries and debits/credits for motor vehicles, personal property, and real property. To be considered for the position candidates will have at least a high school diploma or GED, plus three (3) years of experience in accounting, financial record keeping or bookkeeping. One (1) year of experience must have involved the daily receipt, verification, and reconciliation of large amounts of money. Within three (3) years of appointment, incumbents are required to possess and maintain a current certification as a Certified Connecticut Municipal Collector.

Candidates will possess ability to deal with the public tactfully, even under unpleasant conditions; knowledge of and ability to interpret tax laws and the ability to work under state mandated guidelines; ability to accurately calculate and provide detailed tax statements to attorneys, banks, and other lending institutions; and ability to analyze and evaluate various tax forms and statements. Must be bondable.

This is a 30 hour per week position with a flexible four day a week schedule and an hourly rate of $32.89 per hour, and full benefits pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement.
