Position Title: Assistant Tax Collector
Hours of Work: Monday – Thursday 8:00 to 4:30 & Friday 8:30 to 12:00. 35.5 hours per week.
Salary Range: Grade 8, Non-union – Salary Range $26.17 to $36.67 per hour
The Town of Madison is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Tax Collector. This position is located in the Tax Office of the Town. Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions: Associate’s degree in Accounting or a related field with two (2) years of related experience or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Connecticut Certified Municipal Collector Certification and successful completion of final exam within three (3) years of hire. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to successfully complete a complex background investigation. Municipal experience highly desirable.
Position Purpose: The purpose of this position is to provide technical and administrative assistance to the Tax Collector in billing, collecting and crediting taxes, and related bills and to assume responsibility for the department in the absence of the Tax Collector. Collects, verifies and posts daily receipts involving cash register, books and ledgers. Receives daily delivery of tax payments. Calculates and collects interest and penalties. Certifies State required motor vehicle compliance. Compiles corrections and processes motor vehicle pro-rations and certificate of correction. Assists auditors. Coordinates mailing of tax bills. Organizes and prepares final warning notices, prepares demand letters and assists in foreclosure accounts. Performs research, communicates with Town Departments, Probate Court and outside agencies. Performs a wide variety of other administrative duties.
