The Town of Willington seeks a part-time Assistant Revenue Collector. This is an 18-hour per week union position that does not include benefits. Salary: $22.31 per hour. The ideal candidate must be office proficient. The CT Municipal Tax Collector certification is preferred.

Assistant to Tax Collector

Provides technical and administrative assistance to the Tax Collector in the billing, collecting, and crediting of taxes.
Assumes responsibility of office in the absence of the Tax Collector. Receives oral or written instruction from the Tax Collector. Maintains financial records, including receiving and crediting of real estate, personal property, motor vehicle taxes. Prepares tax information for entry into automated billing system. Regularly updates data information. Analyzes and recommends improvements to collection system if needed. Maintains and updates escrow accounts and real property transfers as necessary. Prepares monthly computerized and manual reports. Prepares tax bills for real estate, personal property, motor vehicle and supplemental motor vehicles as needed. Performs arithmetic computations, requiring absolute accuracy in examining, verifying, and correcting taxes. Balances and reconciles Rate Books. Provides information and assistance to attorneys, banking officials, and members of the general public. Composes routine correspondence and other materials as instructed by Tax Collector. Reports work accomplished to the Tax Collector.

Supervised by:
Receives general supervision from the Tax Collector.

Qualifications Profile:
The skills and knowledge would generally be acquired by a high school graduate, with course work in bookkeeping, office procedures, or some closely related subjects; and two years of responsible clerical bookkeeping experience. Knowledge of record keeping procedures, including accounts receivable, accounting terminology and basic accounting procedures. Ability to acquire a working knowledge of tax policies and procedures. Ability to accurately process paperwork on all accounts. Ability to explain tax polices and procedures to members of the public. Ability to type accurately. Ability to learn and use all computer software in the tax office. Ability to become a Connecticut Certified Tax Collector within the time frame allowed. Certified as a Connecticut Municipal Tax Collector desirable. Eligible for required bonding.
